Special publication celebrating the 10th anniversary of granting the title of Historic Monument to the historic districts of Poznań
A Monument to History. History in a Monument was published to commemorate the 10th anniversary of granting the title of Historic Monument to the historic districts of Poznań.
Historic Monument is a title given to buildings and historic sites which are of utmost importance to the cultural heritage of Poland. It is not surprising therefore, that the historic districts of Poznań, which constitute an unparalleled urban environment, received this title. If you take a map of the city and look at the capital of Wielkopolska from a high angle, you can easily trace the stages of the city’s development from the Cathedral Island, to Poznań’s left bank and the Old Town, to Fort Winiary (today’s Cytadela), to the Castle District.
In 2018 TRAKT Cultural Tourism Centre, a municipal cultural institution charged with promoting Poznań heritage, prepared a series of events whose aim was to draw attention to the anniversary of receiving the title of Historic Monument. We held exhibitions, released publications and organised workshops, meetings and walks which helped the participants explore the architecture of the Historic Monument.
This publication is the culmination of the aforementioned events. It was created thanks to the cooperation between CTC TRAKT and the team of Poznań Monument Conservator. The book features articles by excellent authors who describe the Historic Monument adopting the perspective of their areas of expertise.
