DZIKHI BIT 2019

In 2019 we published a special issue of Dzikhi BIT devoted to the themes of multiculturalism and putting down roots. It was connected to the fact that in 2019 Porta Posnania celebrated its fifth birthday.

Years ago Porta Posnania was a newcomer to the city, just like migrants and tourists. It was new, different and foreign both in Poznań and in the district of Śródka. We were searching for the common ground with the neighbourhood, the area and the local community. We were learning about one another and it was heritage that brought us together. Today, thanks to heritage we can live together focusing on the similarities and respecting the differences.

The issue opens with an interview with Izabela Czerniejewska from Migrant Info Point about the current situation of migrants in Poznań. We also take a look at the city as a multicultural space, present a short history of Jews in Poznań and celebrate the Year of Poznań Bambrzy and the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Bamberg settlers in the city. Apart from that, we look at the historic Cathedral Island from the perspective of foreigners who visited it, and write about the multicultural women of Poznań including the Germans, Jews, Spanish and Swiss.
